Cara Gaynor
Observational, Intimate, Character
Cara’s directing work spans across documentary, commercial and fiction. She directs with an observational instinct, bringing the intimacy of documentary to every project she takes on.
Cara is drawn to stories of family, connection and belonging, shaped by both her Irish and Italian-American upbringing. She directs with an observational instinct, bringing the intimacy of documentary to every project she takes on.
She first gained recognition documenting the Republic of Ireland Women's National Team's historic journey to their first FIFA Women's World Cup. While football introduced many people to her work, it was never the subject that interested her most - it was the people behind it.
Her documentary Long Balconies, Vibrant's first fully in-house produced documentary, won Best Charity Film at the Emerging Directors Awards and has screened at festivals across Ireland. Her work on the SSE Airtricity x League of Ireland series Powered By, has been shortlisted for Best Commercial two seasons in a row.
Cara has directed work for clients including Diageo, Guinness Storehouse, Champions Travel, SSE Airtricity and the League of Ireland. Alongside her commercial work, she continues to develop original documentary and fiction projects with the same curiosity and eye for human moments.
